Welcome to Rags2Rugs
I am a wife and mother of four daughters from the Northeast corner of the United States ~ Maine. I work part-time outside the home, homeschool and run my rug business/hobby the rest of the time. I started making rag rugs seven years ago, after seeing a lady with a few of them at a craft fair.
I had always wanted to braid rugs, but time and money was the issue. When I saw these rugs and how they were made, I was so excited.
I struggled with it initially, but determined to master this, I continued and made numerous rugs, that I took to shows and sold to family and friends. As I continued, so many people I met wanted to learn the art of crochet rag rugs, that I wrote directions and started teaching classes. This has been the most rewarding for me. Especially when you meet someone who says they are not crafty at all, and once they leave with a completed rug, they are so proud of their accomplishment. This has brought me the most satisfaction in this venture.
I have learned along the way that crochet rag rugs has been around a very long time. One gentleman upon stopping by my booth, was awed at the rugs, and how they brought back memories of his mom making them.
One lady stopped and with tears in her eyes recalled how they made her think of her grandmother and of a time when she was poor. At the time she hated those rugs, but now, she would give anything for one of her grandmother's rugs. She purchased three that day. It pleased me to know she was purchasing a dear memory of her grandmother.
The rugs are made with thought as I conservatively blend colors to create a rug for someone to enjoy. These rugs are so durable. They are washer and dryer safe.
A laundromat should accommodate larger rugs.
